Philosophy

We are committed to providing a safe environment where every child can grow and learn.  We recognize that every child is unique and needs an enriched, stimulating environment in which to explore and grow.  In partnership with parents, we strive to promote a quest of discovery in the minds of our children. The Norton School community will assist students to become life-long learners who are compassionate, productive citizens.

Achievements

-Rigorous Academic Curriculum: Our 3rd thru 5th grade students regularly score

above the state average on Michigan State Assessments (MEAP).  Our curriculum is

continuously being refined to best meet state content standards.  We strive to keep

parents well informed of their students' progress.
-Student Recognition: Our student recognition program in which staff recognize

student efforts in academics, attendance, achievement and effort on a daily,

weekly, and monthly basis.
-Student Council: Representatives from three grade levels meet with an advisor

every other week to discuss students' concerns, plan school-wide projects and

events, and provide a forum for student input when making decisions for the student body.
-
Active Parent Involvement:  Volunteering in classrooms, helping on PTO projects,
  attending conferences,
serving on committees, taking part in school/family activities
  are all opportunities
for parents to be part of their child's education
-Student Assistance Program: Focusing on educational concerns and improving the

quality of learning within the school environment, our team of professionals meets

every other week to discuss student needs. The intent of the program is to provide

a framework for assisting students experiencing academic, social, behavioral or

emotional problems by enlisting the support and involvement of all Norton Staff

members.
-Commitment to Learning Healthy Habits: Recognizing that our children need

more than reading and writing skills to succeed in life, Norton's students and staff

are committed to developing habits for healthy bodies and minds. Learning about

healthy eating, exercise and good decision-making, our students will learn habits

that will be useful their entire life.
