The Three Rivers School Board narrowed the field to two candidates after interviewing four candidates on April 9 and 12 for the superintendent position. The two finalists are Jonathon Whan, Superintendent, Grant and Ron Moag, Chief Financal/HR Officer, Suttons Bay.
The candidate interviews on April 9 and 12 were about one hour each. Board members asked the candidates questions regarding vision for the school district, communication style, management and decision-making style, vision for technology, and many others. Candidates also were able to offer opening and closing statements. There were several staff and community members in the audience. The Board is being assisted in the search process by MASB, Michigan Association of School Boards. The final interviews will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday April 23 at the Board Office. The public is encouraged to attend the interviews.

The Three Rivers School Board met on March 20 to review applicants for the superintendent position. The Board felt the candidate pool was excellent with 18 applicants and determined to interview four candidates for the position. The Board is being assisted in the search process by MASB, Michigan Association of School Boards with Dr. Rodney Green as the consultant.
Monday April 9
The interviews will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday April 9 and Thursday April 12 at the Board Offices. The public is encouraged to attend the interviews. A second round of interviews is planned for April 23.
6:00 p.m. Spencer Byrd, Superintendent at Meridian School District in Mounds, Illinois since 2015. Previously, he was Principal at East Aurora High School in Aurora, Illinois, Principal at Midland High School in Varna, Illinois. He has also served as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, teacher and coach in various school districts in Illinois.
7:15 p.m. Jeff Rehlander, Superintendent at Gobles Public Schools since 2012. Previously, he was owner of Padgett Business Services in Granger, Indiana for five years. He also was Principal at LiVille Junior/Senior HS in Lakeville, Indiana for four years. He has been Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, Assistant Principal and a teacher in various school districts in Indiana.
Thursday April 12
6:00 p.m. Ron Moag, Chief Financial/Human Resource Officer, Suttons Bay Public Schools since 2017. Previously, he was Director of CTE and Associate HS Principal in Lake Stevens, Washington for four years. He was superintendent at Hart Public Schools in Michigan from 2010-12. He was Principal at Kent ISD Career Tech Center, HS Principal in Caledonia, and has been an assistant principal and teacher.
7:15 p.m. Jonathon Whan, Superintendent at Grant Public Schools since 2012. Previously, he served as Assistant Superintendent at Bedford for two years and HS Principal in Godwin Heights for seven years. He also was HS Assistant Principal in Bay City for four years, HS AP/AD for one year in Central Montcalm and teacher and coach for five years at Burton Atherton. The Board expects to appoint a new superintendent to begin July 1, 2018.
