Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

Andrews has a tradition of providing students with an outstanding education and each school year just gets better and better.  Students who have been at Andrews in the past came back remembering and following the building's expectations on day 1.  We are so proud of them!  And, of course, we are thrilled to have many new faces among us.  A special welcome goes out to all of our new students and their families!

This year we continue to celebrate Andrews Pride. Our motto is: Be Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind.  We work hard to uphold these principles in all that we say and do.  Once again, the students of Andrews Elementary are working to be Bucketfillers.  Not sure what a bucketfiller is?  Ask your child or stop in and see for yourself.  We also spend time every month learning and practicing our monthly life lessons.  Please ask your child what this month's lesson is.

Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Andrews students and staff gather together in the gym for Sunrise at 8:00 a.m.  This is a time for making announcements, singing, reciting the pledge, moving about and recognizing students for a number of purposes such as, birthdays, expectation winners, or Wildcats of the Month.  This is a time for us to unite as a school family.  Parents, friends, and neighbors are always invited to join us.

Many special school and P.T.O. functions and activities are scheduled for this year.  Keep your eye on the monthly calendar.  We look forward to working and playing together.  As always, the success of our school depends upon everyone working together to make each child's experience and education here the very best that is can be.  If ever you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  My door is always open.

Andrews Recognized Two Years In Row for Beating the Odds
- a message from the principal
On November 8th, the Michigan department of Education released a list of 123 "Beating the Odds" schools that are outperforming other schools with similar risk factors and demographic composition.  Our school was on the list for the second year in a row.  My hats off to the students and staff of Andrews Elementary.
In Study 1, Andrews Elementary is one of sixty schools that is performing above their predicted levels, based on risk factors such as percent economically disadvantaged; percent students with disabilities; percent English language learners; and percent minority students.
Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mike Flanagan, said “We have good things happening in Michigan schools; these “Beating the Odds” schools are helping students make progress and finding ways to overcome traditional barriers to academic achievement. Beating the Odds schools have found ways to work smarter and harder, not just harder. They have good leaders, knowledgeable and prepared teachers who engage students and a commitment to involve and embrace parents and the community.” Flannagan went on to say, “I encourage all educators to explore what similar “Beating the Odds” schools are doing and, when appropriate, replicate what will work in their buildings.”

The “Beating the Odds” school information is part of the Michigan Department of Education’s continuing commitment to bring “Light of Day” to school data and information to help improve elementary and secondary education.

This recognition continues to reflect what a great place Andrews is to be and the dedication our staff has to our students and to our school! Congratulations to all of our staff for their continued success.
